Okay, this amazing home is not in Wilmington. It’s actually on the other side of the state, in the town of Highlands, which according to Google is a mere six and a half hours away.
This mountaintop estate is getting a bunch of national attention. Both the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post have published articles about it because it is breaking a long standing records With an asking price of $50 million, it is now the most expensive home ever listed in North Carolina. It shattered the previous mark which was set by three homes that sold for $20 million.
The estate hit the market in the middle of last month. It sits on more than 40 acres, with buyers having the option to purchase another 18 acres adjent to the lot. It is currently owned by a London-based lighting executive Andrew Johnson. He used the estate as a vacation home, which the family purchased for $18 million, according to the Journal.
The main house offers four bedrooms and spans about 2,000 square feet. Features include a wine cellar, a sleeping porch, seven fireplaces and a garden-inspired sitting room adorned with a mural of local birds. There is also a three-bedroom guesthouse featuring its own movie theater. The grounds feature a pool with sunset views, an outdoor amphitheater, and a dining pavilion for events and parties, a croquet court and a helipad .
